This outlet river from Schroon Lake travels 20+ miles through Warren County, finally emptying into the Hudson River. The best fishing areas are as follows: from Pottersvillie to Starbuckville dam. This spot is a canoeist's treat although, the fishing is usually only fair but, at times excellent. Starbuckville dam to Riverbank approximately 6 miles is a fly fisherman's special Brown's average 10-14" with trophies to 5lbs. A few salmon and lake trout are taken at the pool below the Dam. Riverbank to County Home Bridge:County Home Bridge to Rt. 418 Bridge, Warrensburg approximately 12 miles this is a two part canoe fish/float special. The first, Riverbank to the County Home Bridge is good smallmouth bass, northern pike, pickerel, and panfish in the oxbow Ben's of the river and along weed line and structures having sunken trees. The second float, from County Home Bridge to canoe take-out just below Bridge at Warrensburg, is approximately 2 miles long.
