Lake George, know as the Queen of American Lakes because of its picturesque beauty and crystal-clear waters, is on of the great fishbowls of the Northeast. It supports a unique two-story fishery, plus excellent bass, northern pike, and pan fisheries. Fishing opportunities for trout and salmon remain quite good . Lake trout 8-12lbs. are frequently caught, with 15-18lb. trophy fish taken in both north and south basins on occasion. Landlocked Salmon average 3-4lb., with trophies 6-9lbs. and an occasional fish over 10lbs. taken from Lake George in both the north and south basins. The warm-water fishery is considered one of the top bass spots in the northeast. The smallmouth bass reigns supreme in both north and south basins. It is caught in and around just about every rocky structure, in hundreds of coves, outcroppings nubs, and islands that dot the lake. Average size 2-3 lbs., with a large number of 4-5 lb. fish taken every year. Largemouth bass and northern pike are found in the shallower big bays that have strong weed line structure. Largemouth average 2-4 lbs. with a large take of 5-7 lb. fish. Northerns range from small 4-6 lb. ax-handles up to 20 lb. plus barracudas. This great bass fishery attracts state and regional bass tournaments to "The Big G" yearly. This unique fishery lets you take the fish from 50-100' deep on light tackle. As in most other Warren County waters, the pan fishery (sunnies, perch, rock bass, crappies) offers great, ultralight fishing and an exciting experience for children.
PLEASE NOTE: LAKE GEORGE IS DRINKING WATER! DO NOT DUMP WASTE INTO THE LAKE. |
